Diablo 4's Season 16 PTR notes raise Thundergod's Blessing and several Legendary Aspects, while cutting Banished Lord's Talisman's Critical Strike Damage; the listed values apply to the scheduled October 27-November 3, 2026 test, not a guaranteed live balance state. Compare Diablo 4 Items against your build's damage and defense needs before making a gear plan.
The main question is whether a change improves the setup you actually play. A higher damage range won't help if your build can't make use of that effect, while a reduced affix or class restriction can force a slot change.
1 Which Diablo 4 items receive damage buffs
Thundergod's Blessing and three named Legendary Aspects gain higher damage values in the 3.3.0 PTR notes. Thundergod's Blessing moves from 250-300% damage to 300-350%, a meaningful increase for builds already built around the Unique's effect.
These Aspect ranges also rise.
◆ Aspect of Incendiary Fissures increases from 40-60% damage to 80-120%.
◆ Moonrise Aspect moves from 40-60% to 60-80%.
◆ The Necromancer's Aspect of the Great Feast rises from 35-55% to 70-110%.
The higher ranges make these effects worth checking in builds that can use them, but they don't establish a universal gear ranking. Your other equipped effects and the role of each slot still matter, so compare a buffed option with the item it would replace.
2 Which PTR changes cut power or restrict class access
Banished Lord's Talisman takes the sharpest listed reduction: its Critical Strike Damage drops from 130-150% to 80-100%. Builds that depend on that bonus may need to recover critical damage from other gear or reconsider how much of their output comes from critical hits.
Messerschmidt's Reaver changes its forced affix from Life on Hit to Critical Strike Damage Multiplier. That shifts the weapon from a sustain-oriented modifier toward offense, but the change alone doesn't show that it will replace the lost Talisman bonus; assess the complete item and your build's other stats.
Temerity's barrier duration falls from 8 seconds to 4 seconds. Builds that rely on its protection may need more frequent barrier triggers to maintain similar coverage, and that depends on how reliably the build can generate them.
◆ Signet of Pelghain is restricted to Necromancers, Sorcerers, and Rogues on the PTR; Barbarians and Druids lose access if they currently use it.
3 How should you translate these changes into build choices
Check the effect each item provides in your current setup before deciding whether the PTR change improves or weakens your build. For Banished Lord's Talisman, compare your total critical damage after changing gear; Messerschmidt's Reaver now has a different forced affix, but that doesn't guarantee it covers the same need.
Temerity's shorter barrier duration is a separate defensive trade-off. If your character can't refresh the barrier often enough, a shorter duration may leave gaps in protection; if it can, the Unique may still fit your setup. Likewise, Signet of Pelghain's class restriction makes a replacement necessary for affected Barbarians and Druids, not for every class.
Paladins also have an Aspect change to evaluate. Aspect of Jacques' Fervor shifts from 15-20% Critical Strike Damage per Fervor stack to 25-30% damage per stack, while each stack drains 5 Faith per second. That trades a critical damage bonus for a different damage increase with an ongoing resource cost, so consider whether your build can support the drain.
Necromancers should check more than the Aspect of the Great Feast increase. The notes also rework Blood Moon Breeches and fix interactions involving Aspect of Bursting Bones and Aspect of Potent Blood with Cruor's Embrace, so builds using those effects may need separate adjustments.
4 How can you test the Season 16 changes before changing live gear
The scheduled PTR runs from October 27, 2026 at 10 AM PDT to November 3 at 10 AM PST, giving you a test window for comparing affected setups. PTR values can change, so use the results to guide your next checks rather than treating them as a promise about the live season.
Mrak's PTR boosts can provide Gold, materials, all Uniques, random Legendaries, all runes, and maxed Aspects; they can also set a character to level 70 with the campaign completed. That lets you compare the listed gear changes without first farming every item, though the comparison is most useful when you keep the rest of your build consistent.
Change one major item or Aspect at a time, then check the result against the role you need it to fill. For damage options, compare the affected effect with your existing setup; for Temerity, pay attention to barrier gaps; for class-restricted gear, identify a usable replacement. The notes also list fixes for Stone of Jordan's Resistance bonus while mounted and the class-ineligible Thundergod's Blessing result from the Upgrade to Unique recipe, so account for those behavior changes when testing.
Keep useful affected Season 15 gear if you have stash space, since the PTR values may move before the season goes live. Then review Diablo 4 materials alongside your gear priorities and plan upgrades around what your live character needs.
